Senator Timilty’s Statement on Holyoke Soldiers’ Home Independent Investigative Report
I am deeply disturbed and troubled by the findings presented in the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home Independent Investigative Report. These events that have unfolded both prior to and during the Covid-19 outbreak should never have occurred.
Each and every resident who has called this facility their home is an American hero. These heroes – each with amazing stories of their brave service to our great nation – deserve proper care and oversight at these facilities.
I am committed to working closely with my legislative colleagues to ensure that implementation of best industry practices is in place at this home.
We should also be mindful that this tragedy remains an active investigation, with the Commonwealth’s State Attorney General and Commonwealth Inspector General, and also with the US Attorney.
We must ensure that those responsible for the actions and inactions that lead to both the catastrophic conditions and tragic deaths be held accountable. No less is owed to both our veterans and their families.
